Therapy for Mothers

Mental health therapy for mothers and women in Bakersfield, CA and all over California

What do I mean “Hold the Mother”? Usually pregnancy is met with excitement and joy from those surrounding the pregnant mother. But as soon as the baby is born, it’s all about the baby. When a mother births her baby, all everyone wants to do is come over and “hold the baby”. The mother is no longer pregnant, so she is no longer relevant. Although she just experienced one of the most critical (pregnancy and birth) times in her life, she is forgotten.

Her body is experiencing the biggest hormonal drop she will ever experience, and she is not checked on. She might be having scary thoughts or struggling to bond with her baby. She might have had a really traumatic birth and is being told that doesn’t matter, as long as the baby is “ok”. I want to change that narrative. The mother needs “holding” too. She just gave birth. She needs care. She is healing. She needs to be HELD. She needs to be checked on.

Bringing a child into this world is a radical, life-changing experience. A mother needs as much support as possible to help the baby survive. Helping mothers, helps families. I am here to help. This is why my mental health therapy practice is called Hold the Mother Mental Health Services.

If you are finding yourself suffering in silence, it’s OK to ask for help.

Si te encuentras sufriendo en silencio, esta bien pedir ayuda.

Meet Yuli

Hi! Hola! So glad you’re here. Que gusto en conocerte. I am a mother, wife, daughter, and therapist. I have been in the mental health field for 10 years and have worked with all kinds of wonderful humans, with all types of backgrounds. After having my first baby, I developed PTSD due to a traumatic birth experience. I became paranoid, anxious, and terrified to live. I didn’t know what was happening to me and I obsessively researched to find answers. I wanted to know that I wasn’t the only one. It turns out that I wasn’t. I sought help and got better. I got certified in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International and made it my mission to be a part of the village for women and mothers suffering. I hold a free monthly postpartum support group in Bakersfield, CA. I am passionate about this work and I’m ready to be of service to you.

My Approach

First of all, my personality is warm, empathic, sometimes funny, and calming— at least that’s what I’ve been told! Clients are typically in therapy 7-15 sessions depending on what they are looking for. Some clients want more short-term treatment and others want longer-term. My therapeutic approach heavily depends on the needs of my clients. I utilize different modalities, including psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and attachment based therapy. Some prefer traditional “talk therapy” and others prefer a more structured approach. I can do both. I also offer Exposure Response Prevention for the treatment of Obsessive Compulsion Disorder (OCD) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Take the first step by scheduling a free consultation today.
